Buying Blue Crabs: What to Know
How blue crabs are graded
Sellers on SeafoodNearMe grade blue crabs as jumbo, #1, #2, small, mixed, sooks. Jumbos are the largest males (typically 6+ inches point to point), #1s are large males, #2s are smaller males, and sooks are mature females. "Mixed" means the seller has not sorted by size. When a seller uses their own wording, it appears alongside the standard grade so you can compare listings fairly.
Units and pricing
Blue crabs are sold by the dozen, half bushel, bushel. A bushel typically holds 5–7 dozen depending on crab size. Each listing shows the seller's own price per unit — SeafoodNearMe does not set or estimate prices.
Freshness and pickup
Listings show when the seller last confirmed availability and when the listing expires. Live crabs should be picked up the same day and kept cool and damp — never on ice water. Pickup location, hours, and instructions come from each seller's profile.
Origin transparency
